Surface Media is a storytelling company that looks at the world through the lens of design. It includes print magazines Surface and Watch Journal; digital platforms at surfacemag.com and watchjournal.com; a custom publishing division, Surface Studios; a designer focused representation agency, Culture+Commerce; and a highly regarded event program including the Design Dialogues series. Description

The Business Development Associate is responsible for growing membership to The List, Surface’s definitive directory of companies producing exemplary design. You’ll play a fundamental role in developing The List’s membership base by working alongside Surface’s Editorial, Marketing,and Product teams to provide tremendous value to our clients. 

Responsibilities

  • Research prospects to personalize your outreach and sales presentations
  • Exercise excellent judgment in qualifying and prioritizing prospects
  • Successfully manage and overcome prospect objections
  • Deliver consistent sales results against monthly/quarterly/annual sales goals
  • Sell new opportunities to existing List members throughout the year
  • Collaborate with Marketing to execute inbound marketing campaigns
  • Communicate prospect requirements and needs to the Product team
  • Propose and implement new sales strategies
  • Represent The List at trade-shows and conferences
  • Be a brand champion and educate prospective clients on The List

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years B2B sales experience-- phone sales experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Proven track record in new sales: skilled at objection handling, lead nurturing, and sales strategy 
  • Well organized, go-getter mentality and a pre-planner
  • Positive and tenacious
  • Able to thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong phone and email skills: ability to meet outbound call and sales targets
  • Excellent communication skills: written, in person and phone
  • Proficiency with CRM tools such as Salesforce and Mac OS X
  • Comfortable dealing with data and understanding reports
  • Knowledge of and a passion for the creative industries, including: design, architecture, fashion, among others
